This occurs randomly on my computer monitor. I've tried changing to a new VGA connector then a new HMDI connector from the computer to the monitor, I've tried a different monitor, I installed a new graphics card, I've taken the computer a technician and it happened on his monitor, I've contacted the manufacturer of the monitor but I cannot find a solution to this. Does anyone have any ideas?

With what are you viewing the images?

It's not the monitor. It's the computer.

Attested by the fact that the service group's monitor did the same thing.

I would check; perhaps you might update, change or roll back the video driver, (software). It's possible an OS update changed the video driver.?

possibly a memory issue? how much RAM memory does your pc and graphics card have? Canon 80D will make large .CR2 files? Try reducing the number of programs running when you view?

I have a very, very slight variation of that with an old monitor and an old computer, so I just ignore it. As you've discovered, it can be tough to solve computer problems.

When did this problem first occur? Is this a replacement monitor or the original one you used with that computer?

I took photos of the monitor....if I take a screen shot using the snipping tool the problem is not present when I view the screen shot as a file and the computer is not screwing it up.

The problem is within the computer which is about 6 years old. What no one has been able to tell me is what part of the computer is screwing up the screen. Any suggestions?

What are you using to view the files when this happens?
Does a different viewer yield the same results?

It's six years old? What spec? I still believe, as stated above it's your RAM (or probably lack of) that's causing your problem? How much RAM do you have on the motherboard and Graphics card? A slow pc, little RAM, numerous background programs are a recipe for problems like this.

You can try to reinstall Windows.

It has 16 GB of RAM, a 2 TB disk, and a I-5 core and Windows 10 64 bit. I have stopped every software program from running except the picture file and still get the distortion. The problem started several months ago and no one I have consulted has had an answer that worked. It has got to be something to do with the computer but what part of it?

Ok rule out the RAM and processor, which program are you using to display images, have you tried a different one?
