New Lease of Life

I bought a Sony camera body E fit from Ebay, initially, to use my Leica 39 screw lenses once again. The glassless adapter works a treat with the manual focus peaking system of the Sony body. Following on from the Leitz lens re-birth, I bought an adapter for my Super Takumar lenses. All manual focus, all with aperture ring. What the heck, I thought, I've got Nikkor MF lenses that cannot be used on my Nikon Digital bodies (28mm PC.. 85mm F/1.8...200- 600mm zoom...70 - 200 zoom) Perhaps others lying 'Dormant', waiting for a new lease of life, attached to the Sony body. I did not intend to fully switch over to a Sony 'All singing -all dancing system. Just wanted to use the lenses once again , now that I do not have the constraints of 'Press Photography' speed mayhem. My photography, along with the Leica...Takumar...and Nikon MF lenses, are all enjoying a 'New Lease of LIFE'.

Pablo8, I fully understand your joy of the classic lenses. Back in the days when Sears/Robuck was the Amazon of its day I purchased a Sears SLR and a 200mm [M42 mount] lens. Both were Ricoh manufactured. Then my dream [nightmair menu] camera Minolta i7000.

When Sony bought Minolta and adapted the classic AF lens mount, I was already equipped with Minolta lenses; they mounded and worked directly, an adapter allowed use of M-42 lenses [manual focus]. Eventually I upgraded to a Sony A65 which fits my DSLR needs. My Minolta and A lens stable has grown because of the bargain prices and gifts of loved lenses that wanted a good home from those switching to other cameras. As you say " all enjoying a 'New Lease of LIFE."

Hello Donald...I took my Sony, and some of the 'Old Timers' for a day out yesterday. among my Leica lenses, I became re-united with my 35mm f/3.5 Retro-Lumax 39mm screw lens. made by R.G.Corfield for the Periflex cameras (A British company). The model one that I used, had an inverted periscope system, where the tiny mirror, housed in a spring loaded turret above the lens mount (centrally). One had to push the mirror down into the light-path,peer down the periscope, and focus on the section of image seen. release the periscope slider, compose the picture in the normal viewfinder, and press the shutter. The camera was advertised as a 'Reflex-Focussing' 35mm camera, as opposed to an SLR. I only had the 50mm and 35mm lenses. I 'Lent' (permanently, as it turned out) the camera and 50mm to my Nephew, a 'Hard-up' art student. Never got it back though. That was back in the 1960's / 70's. The 35m lens stayed with me, and I seem to remember the promotional blurb that announced the arrival of the lens, was the "incredible sharpness, focussing down to six inches from the subject". Will try out some shots around this range and see how it performs, later. Did the Corfield products ever reach 'across the pond' ? I believe he brought-out a wooden framed Pin-hole camera.
