I am looking for an easy way to locate duplicate photos on my pc. I did a google search and there are a lot of them out there. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good free app? I get irritated when I download what I thought was a free app and find out later that it was a trial app. I am even willing to pay for an app if it is reasonably priced.

On the Apple App site there are many "free" apps with the indication "Get", looking a bit further down ,in smaller letters, is the statement, "In-App Purchases". an indicator
of the necessity to purchase the complete program. Ido not know if that applies on the Google site.

I am very careful with programs that offer these services. After a long time I bought and downloaded "Clean my Mac" for a year it has been updated and works really well.
I dug around on the net and Mac reviews tested it with a free try and think it is great. Yes I know you have a PC which has a challenge with viruses etc. The Mac does
too but they are minimal. I just looked and their are programs "Clean my PC" I would really research online and get a test drive. Good luck.

I used an early incarnation of this software several years ago and it works. Be aware this kind of programme usually looks for identical file names, so if you have incorporated dates or other unique letters or symbols into the file name, it will not be considered a duplicate.

If you use Lightroom, you can compile "smart searches" which will achieve the same thing but will need a bit of effort.

There are some duplicate file finders in existence that compares image contents rather than file names. I have not used one and imagine they are quite expensive.

You need to be careful, just because it’s a duplicate doesn’t mean it’s not the one that it’s not the one that Lightroom thinks is the original. So if you delete it Lightroom won’t know where it is.
