DXO does a great job....
How steep is the learning curve for DXO?
Compared to Lightroom (low in my opinion) or Photoshop(high).

DXO was pretty quick and easy for me...
I use Lightroom for image management, often the raw conversion is fine in ACR/Lightroom, but for some images, I convert the original raw in DXO, apply a few tweaks, then export a TIFF back to Lightroom for some final tweaks.
DXO has a pair of Lightroom plugins that make it a snap to use Lightroom as your image management system, and edit a selected raw with DXO, the exported TIFF from DXO get imported back into Lightroom and stacked with the original.
In most cases my roundtrip into DXO takes me only a few minutes with a set of clicks or even using a global saved preset.
There are two versions of DXO, if you opt to buy it, go for the ELITE version that includes PRIME Noise Reduction. You can download a free trial of course... I was hooked as soon as I saw the PRIME Noise reduction in action.
A Great tool to add to Lightroom & Photoshop.

Count? They are plugins for specific tasks, but not a raw converter like DXO. In the NIK collection, Dfine is the noise removal plugin, but that was not the same as PRIME noise reduction ( PRIME is applied on export in Elite )
The NIK plugins do great jobs at what they do, I have them for Lightroom/Photoshop from when they were released free. They have their place for sure.
Getting back to DXO Elite - U-point technology for local edits is included ( like in NIK Vivesa and the original Nikon Capture NX, found under local adjustments - takes a little getting used to, but can be very powerful.
These are really beautiful!
