Would you swap your a77ii for an a99? Why or why not?
No, I shoot macro and long(ish) telephoto and like the crop factor for those types of shots.
If I were doing landscapes, etc. I would go with the A99
It's six of one and half dozen of the other. both cameras have 24mp but the A99 is full frame and is two years older, after adding everything up, both cameras are neck & neck. If image quality is your thing, I would say the A99,but not by much.
Ideally, one would opt for the A99II; but used A99 prices are a bit below new A77II's pricing. I had the same decision, you are contemplating, and decided to go with the A77II. Aside from not getting my money's worth out of my 10-20mm wide zoom, the A77II more than meets my needs. There is a Minolta/Sony internet reviewer, Kurt Munger, who has two websites relating to A and E mount gear who has a comparison chart(?) on your camera choices. That may be of help to you. I am quite happy with my A77II and find it produces superior quality images than my A65, which is a cropped sensor with similar, but inferior, characteristics to the A99. My choice would be the A77II over the A99. If I could afford it, the A99II, used (in full working condition)or new would be my ideal camera. Read Kurt Munger's reviews. Too many photographers drink the kool aid of full frame superiority. There are many benefits to full frame, to some it is worth the extra cost, others get superior results with lower cost cropped sensors. I suppose it is in the eyes of the user, or viewer. Good luck.
Thanks to everyone for your feedback. I'm going to keep my a77ii for now.
I went with a77ii best camera for me. I looked at the a99 my battery grip from m a77 did not fit a 99 but does fit the a77ii and the a99ii . The a77ii or a99ii are the only cameras to consider.

I owned both of these camera's. Both are very very similar in operation. Both have that great swing in any direction LCD screen. BUT, to be honest, I sold both and the lenses cause the feel of both did not compare to the solid feel of the Nikon DSLR's.
That said, I seemed to favor the a77II for wildlife and I favored the a99 for landscapes. What I really liked was the ability to use the older Minolta AF lenses on both camera's. But my favorite lenses were my Minolta AF primes, 20, 24, 28, 50 and 100 micro's were all really sharp and delivered. My all time favorite Minolta AF lenses was the 200 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8. Wow, those Minolta colors are rich and hard to beat.
I also like the electronic viewfinder of both, I could see the final exposure before i took the shot, that is what i will miss about both camera's.
The new Nikon Z's are out, but I am not biting until I see a lot more user reviews.
No, I would not. Main reason is the updated (2 years) of IBIS, EVF and most important, focusing both auto and use of focus peaking. The Video is better on the A77II as well.
There would not be that much IQ improvement(ease of use is better on the 77II, etc. as I use a number of manual lenses) for me to give up my A77II for a A99. Most of my lenses are full frame with the exceptions of the 16-50, 17-70 and 35. The cost to switch re lenses is not a lot. Thanks for asking...

I have both and a bunch of Minolta AF lenses plus numerous other A-Mount lenses. They both work great. I pick which one to use based upon what I intend to shoot.

I noticed very easily that the a99 was better for dark level noise (subjects in trees as an example). No pixel peeping necessary. I am now a FF convert. I bought the a99ii.

Yes, I can confirm this too. I see more noise in low light with the A77ii. But I love the A77ii when the light is good with it's 1.5x crop factor for birds, etc. But I tend to favor the A99 for landscapes.
