This is a popular six-mile scenic drive into the small hamlet of Marble. Beautiful white marble is quarried near this location and is for sale in almost any amount desired. We took this side trip on a Sunday as did most of the world's population! On the drive in, a small black bear crossed the road in front of us and was gone before I could get to my camera. A few photos to show the beauty of the area.

Nice set jederick. Thanks for sharing your travels.

So glad you got up there. Did you know that the marble for the Tomb of the Unknown came from there? A few years ago there was a crack in the tomb and a piece of marble had to be found to match, of course from Marble. It is not uncommon to often see trucks hauling huge pieces of marble on the highway. Were you able to get up to Crystal and what is commonly called the Mill. You have some very nice images of your trip!!

Beautiful pictures! We went over McClure Pass couple of weeks ago and didn't take the time to go to Marble. After seeing your pictures I really regret that decision, your pictures do a great job of depicting the beauty of the area. But now I have a good excuse to go back! Did you get up to Crystal Mill? If so let's see the pictures.

Thank You rowedean and I did not know that. Did see where huge slabs of quarried marble was being stored along the road.

No, had intended to go to the Mill for that iconic shot. However, we followed huge lines of traffic into Marble that continued on up the road to Crystal. Our mistake was making this part of our trip on a Sunday when masses of leaf peepers and 4x4's were out enjoying a nice fall day. Maybe next time if it is still standing...how is the road going up?

Thanks Jay, Marble is worth the side trip. We didn't get to Crystal because of the Sunday traffic...long lines of trucks, jeeps, Outback's were heading up and it was stop and go. Lots of leaf peepers and photogs like us!!
