Anyone have an opinion, things "FUJI"??

I have been researching two lenses by fuji, that would cover the area between my fuji 18-50mm and my Fuji 100-400mm. What many would call a "walking around lens. I am considering the 55-200 and the 18-135mm lenses. Without having my hands on either of them, I have formed an opinion (uninformed, basically) favoring the "made-in-Japan, 55 -200mm. It's $200 less than the 18-135mm and NOT weatherproof. I'm a bit nervous about a coin toss to make a choice, and thought that there may be HOGGS that know something about either, or both. RSVP, please, or P.M. me.. Thanks. RJM

I have the 55-200; to be truthful, I don't use it much at all- it is rather slow, and certainly not as good as my other fuji X lenses. I use it occasionally on my X-Pro 2, and X-E2s. It really depends on what you want it for.

One of the best fiji lenses that I found quite by chance, is the 18mm F2. This is really a cracker of a lens. It is worth trying it in a dealers premises; it will surprise you !

I have the 18-135 and just received the 55-200 yesterday from Used Photo (Roberts Camera). Have taken a few shots with it this morning. The photos came out good, in my opinion. But the lens has significant lens creep. Am already thinking of returning it. It is only slightly larger than the 18-135 and weighs about as much. Personally, I like the 18-55 the best. I just wanted the extra reach of the 55-200. If you go out in inclement weather often, go with the 18-135. They are all good lenses.

All I know of Fuji is, that they make great stuff! Their cameras are top notch and all their lenses are amongst the best. I don't have my 35mm Fuji film camera any more, but it was one of my favorites ( I still have a MF Fuji). I do have several Fuji Cine lenses and all I can say is, they are certainly among the best lenses that I have used. I love Fuji!

I really like Fuji 55-200mm. I use it on XE2s. It is VERY sharp, it is not a small lens but comfortable to use. The best thing about 18-55 and 55-200 is their OIS. With OIS switched on images are sharp even with slower SS. These two lenses from Fuji are excellent.

Thank you for the courtesy of a reply. My wife will be happier that I'm going with the made in Japan 55-200. Bob As it is $200 less than the 18-135.

You might also consider the XC50-230mm F4.5-6.7 OIS II. Not the fastest but lightweight and excellent glass.

The 55-200 was the second Fuji lens I bought, and now after owning most of the current Fuji lenses (after selling all my Nikon gear), I still use it extensively. It is very sharp and relatively compact considering its 200mm reach. It is also built like a tank, as I accidentally dropped it three feet onto a hard floor, and it still works fine. I've also used it in moderately bad weather without a problem. If you're shooting mostly landscape or travel, it is a perfect companion to the 18-55. And, it is reasonably priced. The 18-135 is one of the only Fuji lenses I don't own, although I have tried it out. The combo of the 18-55 and 55-200 just works better for me. While the 18-135 seems like a good walk-around lens, I've read reviews that it might not be as sharp as other Fuji lenses. Overall, I couldn't be happier after switching from my Nikon full frame with pro glass to Fuji. I started with the XE-1 then progressively moved up to the XT-1, XT-2 and just started shooting with the XT-3, an incredible camera. Hope this helps with your decision.

Thank you very much! I’m going to order the 55-200 this morning. I appreciate the time and effort to get me your opinion, and I truly appreciate it. No coin toss, I’m going with that lens. RJM

What about the 50 140, then if you ever need a tc it would work on both lenses, I have this combination.

That's also a great lens. I use it instead of the 55-200 in these situations: 1) When I know the weather is going to be especially wet and I want the assurance of its weather sealing 2) When I think I will absolutely need that extra one or two stops of light 3) When shooting portraits or special events and want that extra bokeh to separate my subject from the background. However, it is much heavier and larger than the 55-200 so I rarely take it on hikes or walk-arounds. Also, after carefully testing both, I found that at f/8, both lens are equally sharp. For travel and everyday hiking and walk around situations, though, I like the 18-55 and 55-200.

I have both lenses, and use them all the time, but the 18 - 135 I find more often on the front of my X-T2 than the 55-200. That gap between 55 and 100 is a distance I use a lot, as I do a lot of photographing of my dogs. Your needs may be different. Both are sharp and accurate, and nice to handle.
