Just bought a 2019 VW JETTA SEL 1.4 TSI for a daily driver.
52.2 MPG on a short highway run, driving the speed limit between 55 MPH and 70 MPH as mandated,
cruise on, climate control set at 72 degrees fahrenheit.
Almost exclusively interstate with one pulloff for caffeine.
43.3 MPG on a tank, with 80 miles range remanning, and a full range of 578 miles on a tank driving
roughly 50/50 city/hwy.
Gasoline technology has advanced at an amazing pace.

An apt observation
My first car, a 1963 VW Bug with a 1.2 liter air-cooled engine was considered to be a gas-miser at 27 mpg: One had to practice a Buddhist Monk level of mindful driving to actually attain that 27 mpg.
what happen to the PRIUS ????? almost 60 mpg !.

I wish you well, LWW, with your new car, and just
hope VW doesn't play the same "mileage" game
they did with their diesels...

Since someone asked:
I have one (Prius). It is uncommon to get less than 50 mpg on any trip, and oftentimes I have gotten over 60 with highway driving. Average mileage over the life of the car (36,000+ miles) is 52.1. My best mileage for a ten-mile trip in the country at posted speed limits: 72.3.
On a trip to South Carolina and back to Indiana, at Interstate speeds, the average mileage was 57.9
This car actually exceeds what’s advertised.

Amen to that! VW is paying billions in penalties for "rigging" their cars to burn clean for emissions tests then to change back to a dirty "high performance" setting for normal use. I wouldn't be surprised if they do something similar for their fuel usage readout.
I remember when 30 MPG was a big deal. My 2015 Honda Fit has averaged 43.6 MPG for the past 45,000 miles.
Take a look at fuelly.com. It's good for keeping track of gasoline use.
One of my favorite cars from the past, a '70 Ford Galaxie 2-door hardtop with the 351 engine, got 14 mpg. Thought that wasn't too bad at the time.

Another Prius owner here.
My old (2005) Prius got terrible gas mileage. 45 in the winter and 55 in the summer. Got a new one last year and it gets 55-60 in the winter and 65-70 in the summer. Occasional spurts to 80.
Both the new and old one only got the good mileage after about 8-10 miles of operation. Mileage on short trips (<4 miles or so) was 35-40. Still better than my Dodge 2500 (11 in the summer and 8-9 in the winter with the snow plow on).
Range of the Prius is 550-600 miles with a 10 gallon tank. I no longer put a big effort into finding the cheapest gas station. (In the case of the truck, it cost more to fill it at the cheapest station than it did to fill it up locally because of the distance to the cheapest station).
Ram 1500 4x4 with the v-6 option. 25.4 mpg on state roads, mostly 55 mph. If a full size quad cab truck can get that it makes the 35-40 mpg out of a matchbox car seem less impressive.

2013 Ram 3500 quad cab, long box, diesel automatic. 19mpg at 65mph on cruise and no head wind. 10.3mph pulling a large 5th wheel.
A Prius owner twice. The first one, a 2008 was traded in with 175K miles on it. Had a water pump fail once. Service at 5K miles, only use no ethanol unless there is no option. New one a '14 model has 90K miles, no repairs needed so far.. Both get 45 to 50 mpg, primarily interstate driving, often in mountains of NE TN. (I know, for those of you out west they are mole hills!) This is the standard Prius. The 'C' is supposed to do better but is too small for our needs. The 'V' won't do as well as the standard, but is larger. We have driven cross country twice. Love Prius.
Love my Prius as well 48 in winter 52 or so in summer. 2015 70000miles no issues. Actually gets better mileage in city than on highway. In city driving the car runs on hybrid more thus better milage
