Yes, to eliminate air born pollution, but nothing that can't easily be done in post processing..... Don't waste your money.

They are Dydidium Glass filters, same as the "Enhancer" and "Intensifier" filters from Tiffen and Hoya. They cut back on urban light pollution in long exposure night sky shots. I use my Tiffen Enhancer Dydidium Glass filter if I do night shots near the city, away from light it adds nothing to the image and I prefer to be WAY away from the cities when I shoot night skies.
These filters do "in camera" what it would take hours to do in post processing, and they do it better too.

I have a Hoya Red Enhancing filter which is designed to mute to emission line of sodium vapor lamps which are a major contributor to light pollution.
And a Breakthrough Photography Night Sky filter.
