in my catalog it says 1450 pictures missing.
If i go to my folders all of these photos can be found with the matching cr2 numbers. These photos can be sent to the develop mode and worked on from my folder. There is no box in the corner of any of these photos with an exclimation point. Any Ideas
Thanks in advance

You can "synchronize." I think you right-click on the name in the Library list. You can also re-import them if they're grouped together. Others will have more detailed answers.

Bob
You didn't mention which ver of LR. Couple of ideas to try using LR Classic CC 2018 . In the Library section select the "All photographs" in the catalog dropdown. The goto Library - find all missing photos. Also the number of photos should match the number of photos in the filter folders root directory.
You can also try selecting the in the filter folders the root directory were your photos are listed and right click then "select synchronize folder...."
Hope this helps

Since you are using Classic CC and you can see them, it means they are in the preview database, so all is not lost. You will need to go through your folders in Lightroom and re-sync the ones with the missing folders. When you do the resync, one of the options is to show missing photos, so you can pick and choose which ones you need keep and which to delete.

Hope that helps.

So hard to know...if you use Smart Previews you would be able to work on the image in the Develop module even if the image is not found. Do you have any idea what you did to get "missing pictures" so that it does not happen again? I note that you say there is no mark on the photo to signify that it is missing, which would normally be the case if the link was broken. Your best bet to fix the problem might simply be to unlink these folders with the minus sign and then relink them back into the catalog. Do not make any name changes to the folders at all other than to unlink them as if you do that would affect the image's ability to link up metadata in the catalog. Do all of your moving around of images from within the application to avoid "missing" folders.

Yes indeed - this does help. Very much so. I finally took your advice (a while ago) and "bought" the subscription Lightroom Classic CC for $10 a month.

I do know how this started I put the backup external HD instead of my main external working HD so info on one and not on the other. This was corrected and all links to photos were connected. steps were taken so this will never happen again. the outcome of this fiasco was missing photos and now links back . to the working HD. But the missing photos can be aquired from the folders they were supposed to be in. so ??

LR has no way to delete a folder or image unless you specifically tell it to do so. Broken links to the folders or images on your hard/external drive can occur, but this does not delete your folders/images. It is important to be aware of how you store folders on your hard drive and to have a system of doing so since all LR does is link to your hard drive. Having a defined system of storage that you stick to can avoid these types of problems. Also, it is important to be very careful when changing storage systems as links are often broken when this occurs. You might consider reading the Help manual online at Adobe, click on the Help button in the application window at the top; read about the Library Module in particular. Understanding how the application operates will help you avoid future problems.

This same issue happened to me, but it was my entire Library of 42,000 images that "went missing". After the recent upgrade, this problem occurred. I spent 3 days on the phone with various Adobe "engineers" and none of them were able to completely solve the riddle. The last one told me to just re-import the images as needed when the job called for them to be loaded again and the links would be re-established. All images and .xmp files are still available on the external HD, but the links to them are just not in LR's Library any longer. I know this is not much help to you, but I post this to alert users to the dangers of LR's catalog system. It's great when it works, but a nightmare when it loses the links because it's just unnecessary extra work to re-establish all the links again.

With all of this said, I have established a new workflow with my iMac. After I import all of the images onto my desktop, I use the File viewer to look at each image (the 4th option under "View"). I enlarge the list of images to obtain a full-screen view and then look at them one at a time, just like I would in LR following an import. If I don't like the image, I immediately delete it with the command+delete key. I was able to zip through a batch of 300 shots from a job last night in no time, ending up with 52 useable images. Then I processed them with Adobe Bridge. So, for now, this is my LR work-around. And so far, it works fine. True, I do miss LR because it had been an old friend since LR 1.0 in 2007, but like anything else, there comes a time when you must move on.
