Non-profits

If you are like me and would like more "exposure" (haha) for your excellent work, you might consider offering use rights to non-profits. I used to work for one (American Bird Conservancy) and we were always looking for high quality images. The recent shots on UHH of the Green Jay's and especially the two woodpeckers are just the kind of images non-profits could benefit from using in their magazines, websites and literature.

I agree, it's a great idea and I'm sure there are dozens of worthy causes in even the most rural areas who would be grateful for the help.

I work for a non-profit, and serve on the boards of two others. I do a lot of the "official" photos for websites and publications but don't promote them. I'm not at a time or place where I'm looking for exposure, but I do generally take a photo credit.

I shoot for the Habitat for Humanity NYC for their undergoing rehab of private homes which they purchase for almost nothing and give to needy people. Have a ton of photos on their page and they are always looking for volunteer photographers. I just go to the location for a hour or two and shoot the volunteers putting up sheetrock, painting, using power tools, etc. It's fun and you me a lot of nice people too. Good idea.....give some of your work away for free and get noticed.

I just took a photo I took to be in an auction for a charity I believe in. They ask how much money I wanted out of the proceeds which surprised me. I donated it in hopes someone would like it enough to buy it for a reasonable amount to go to the charity.

I also take pics at church for our newsletter and publish a newsletter for Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders in the S. W. area of Houston damaged by Hurricane Harvey. I keep my mileage, but that is all. Kudos to all who donate to worthy non-profits.

I have created a calendar of 12 photographs I have taken in Montana with a biblical Scripture verse for each one. I provide these to the various churches around our area. I give them to the churches at my cost (very minimal) and they sell them to their congregations as a fundraiser for the church. Win-win all around, and it's a great way to have the Word of God in more homes and on more walls. That's my goal...
