The subscription version of LR gives several new features, but the biggest plus is that Photoshop is included in the subscription.

Get the most out of Lightroom with a new subscription--unless you absolutely cannot afford it.

That's a big plus, but new learning curve for me. Good come back, how often do you use Photoshop just curious?

That depends on what processing features you want or need. I'm satisfied with LR6 and CS6. I have no need for more features and paying $120 a year. I find that I seldom use PS now.

A surprising candidate for consideration is Adobe Bridge which is free. For all the Meta data side of things (you need adobe photoshop even a trial to unlock raw editing in Bridge) however it will happily open in any other suitable program.

Unless you shoot RAW and have a camera or pending camera that isn't supported by v6.14, no. Save your money until you have a technical need.

Shoot RAW with a Canon 5D mkiv with many lens. Outdoor photography mostly. Thing is... I'm a perfectionist

Asking others if you should upgrade does not make sense. You need to ask yourself that question and then answer it with why do it? If you want to have the latest features available in LR and have access to Photoshop to further process images then your answer would most likely be, Yes, upgrade to the subscription choice. If not, just keep using what you have until it no longer works for you.

LR 6 is no longer supported with updates or upgrades. And more than likely will be completely orphaned sometime soon. I guess you can continue to squeeze every last drop of value out of it until a)It breaks, b)you get a new, unsupported camera or lens, or c)you decide to take your post processing to the finishing level, which LR does not do very well, being a parametric editor.

If none of the above apply to you, then save your $$$.

I do my basic processing in LR and finish in PS.

Only if you want to stay up to date with new function and new cameras and of course you get PS with it. While I probably do 95-100% of my editing in LR, there are some functions in PS that are invaluable. It's a steal at $10 a month.

If LR 6.14 does what you want, there's no NEED to upgrade to the subscription version. New features are nice, but the unfortunate side of the subscription model is that if you ever do think you want the new features, your buying decision is going to be buy what you know you want, PLUS commit to keep buying all the new features they ever come up with in the future. Because (as I understand it) once you start the subscription you can't really stop paying at some point in the future without moving to some other software - LR will simply stop doing most of what you want it to do.

My own decision (so far) has been to stick with 6.14 and a copy of Photoshop Elements 2018 for the rare pixel-level work I need to do. I was actually on the $10/month plan for several years in order to have Photoshop, but I stayed with my standalone version of LR5 as I didn't want to get locked into the subscription model for that. I found I only used a few of the PS features, which I could also get in a standalone copy of Elements, so I bought PSE and dropped the PS subscription. I upgraded to LR 6.14 when I switched to micro 4/3 cameras, which were not covered by the RAW converter in LR5. If a future camera is not covered I can (presumably) convert its RAW files to DNG while importing into 6.14. Or convert separately and then import.

As a retiree, my long term concern is not the $10/month they charge now, but the increases in monthly charges they may impose in the future, at a time when my living (medical) expenses can be expected to be rising as well, but not my income. I don't see myself chasing new camera technology in the future - I actually "downgraded" (some would say) from full frame Nikon to micro 4/3 after determining that MFT is good enough for the photography I do, in a much smaller and lighter package. So I expect I'll stay about where I am with cameras, for which LR 6.14 works fine.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Yes, it is. You get updates to all the new camera raw files, and constant improvements that are done that you don't get with the boxed version. Plus you get Photoshop CC and Bridge and the mobile version of LR CC.

I have LR 6.14 and CS 6. Haven’t moved on to Classic subscription. YET. it’s only a matter of time and my motivation to push past my inertia.
