Thank you. I like this - any links to give me an idea please. Stupid question : what do you mean by "IMHO this is the bomb". Grace

I have used a ball head for ages... VERY stable, instant target acquisition and NO fumbling with knobs... right hand stays on camera/controls while left hand controls camera movement. All combinations work but IMHO this is the bomb.

Can you give me some info on this ballhead please? My lens is small (18-300) . Thanks Grace

I have also used the Manfro #222 grip action ball head on a monopod - it is OK - especially for smaller/lighter lenses like the one you show - but I would not recommend for heavier stuff !....

Actually, the #222 grip action ball head is no longer made by Manfrotto - but new ones are being made by others under a different naming. Here is a listing for a used one in the UK -

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Manfrotto-222-joystick-style-tripod-head-removable-top-plate-for-RC2-mount-2/163257393580?hash=item2602e621ac:g:d6wAAOSwRdNbDStr

Here is one with A/S QR - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Manfrotto-3265-222-Joystick-Ball-Head-w-Arca-compatible-Clamp-Both-MINT-COND/142852392237?epid=153237603&hash=item2142aa852d:g:Xf4AAOSwT69bOu39

Without a tripod collar on the lens ( like the 18-300) , shooting vertical will be very challenging from a monopod - you will need a "L" bracket of some kind or a very substantial conventional ball head - shooting horizontal OK.

I am sorry Grace if I was not clear... by being the " Bomb " I meant it as a slang for the " BEST I have used on my monopod... The longest lens I have is a 300mm which has a FOV of a 480 on my 60 D. The pistol grip is made by " Slik " and I have had it for years; I don't know if they have changed the design or not but I LOVE the one-handed pistol grip operation. It is SO easy to manage with one hand and IMHO is rock solid for anything I would think up to medium telephoto. I also have a high dollar acratech and Gitzo and they both stay in the drawer. Actually the pic I posted was from an earlier post where I mentioned keeping 2 velcro straps wrapped on Pod in case you wanted to lash it to a fence post or railing. I am far from a Pro or ANY kind of expert but I do experiment and stick to what works for me. Good luck in your Quest... Bob

I might add Grace that it has a proprietary Quick release plate which works well.

The kirk monopod head only moves on one direction. You'd be better off with the kirk ball head. Full range of motion. I bought the kirk monopod head. Years later it only gathers dust.

Back before "lit" we said "bomb" though I hear "lit" is so last spring. Depending on your age the progression looks something like: boss, groovy, rad, bad, the bomb. Now today, it’s “lit.” Or at least last December it was "lit"

In the UK, the younger generation tend to say "Cool". Actually they answer each comment with a "Cool" :)
