Your thoughts please on these tidbit photos in and around New Orleans
I really like that first shot.
That second shot reminds me of Jackson Square.
Ahh. I see additional photos now. It was Jackson Square. I love that place.
Where was the lilipad?
Dan,
A nice post but your photos seem to suffer from the 'Bulls-eye Effect' i.e. all of your subjects are centered. Investigate the 'Rule of Thirds' and try that when composing your photos.
The flower and the church in Jackson Square look fine centered, but the tree, the lamp post, the bench, and the gull would benefit from being off center. Try cropping the gull photo about where the top of the bridge ends, you don't need that much blank sky. I don't know what the original looks like but a little more room on the left for the bird to fly into would help as well. The Cypress tree is straight, but the horizon is crooked, hmmm.
These are just my suggestions.
Post more soon, I love Nawlins!

Thank you for the feed back as these photos are raw. I have tweeked them a smidget but Feedback is what I am chasing.
Thanks again and more to come.
My favorite is the Cypress tree. I love odd shaped trees or trees that are standing by themselves. That would be a tree I would want to paint. Good work.

Dan, I'm from New Orleans. I was going to spend last friday taking pictures down in the French Quarter, but my son was sick. You beet me to the punch. :D
Nice shots
Two more nice photos Dan, but they both appear to lean to the left. Perhaps a hot shoe bubble level would be of some help?
Eric
Try to tighten up the gull and boost it a little.
... potent ... Bet you pull for the Saints.
I'm a life long Nads fan and proud to say "GO-NADS"
Trees are such wonderful objects to capture! Never been to New Orleans but feel like I saw a piece of it this morning. Thanks for the early morning trip!!
I like the shots but your composition is off, every subject is centered... You should really go get a book on the "rule of 3rd's" as this is your biggest issue. Everyone else seems to like them, but maybe they need to go get the book too?
Not trying to sound like an A$$ but the truth is "when your subjects are centered in each and every photograph you take, they tend to look like bla. It's okay to have some subjects centered, but all? No! Seeing these photographs never even took me there, it was more like a (oh).
As they are, they just look like a picture to throw in the photo album and toss to the side to never be seen by others.
Good luck and happy shooting...
My wife and I were married right next to that bench at Jackson Square. How do you like this night shot of your day shot?
New Orleans is a Honeymoon kinda place.
Must return soon and relive mine as this
