Philosopher Peter Boghossian on faith on Youtube. His argument is simple. He defines faith as "pretending to know something you don't know."

Dose that mean we should all have 'faith' in Philosopher Peter Boghossian?

Of course not. You need to show faith isn't just pretending to know something you don't know.

About halfway through the presentation he offers a test. Once you can fulfill the criteria specified, you might have something. Otherwise, you got bupkes.

He said, "Faith: Pretending to know something you don't know".
You Said, "You need to show faith isn't just pretending to know something you don't know".

What dose this guy know about FAITH. If he has no FAITH how would he know what it is?

What is his true motives. He wants FAITH seperated from morals. FAITH has nothing to do with morals. If Christians have no FAITH in what they do believe then they cease to be. Is that what he wants? Is that what you want?

He said this has been on his mind both day and night for over 22 years. Has he been sick? You know, in the head?

What dose FAITH mean to YOU. Are you married? If so, do you have trust in your wife that she would never cheat on you? That is one kind of faith. Faith build on trust. You believed in your wife so much so that you put your trust in her to be faithful to you. Or, are you just pretending to have faith in her?

You put your faith in something or someone everyday. Except God.

I beleve in the promise of Jesus that when I die I too shall rised and see God. That I believe. Everything else is just simple everyday faith like what you have.

But tell me, why do you have a problem with what I believe? I don't care what you believe as long as you leave me to what I believe. I did not start this thread but I do believe you did to get a response. I do not believe this Peter Boghossian is right in what he is saying but I do see where he is coming from. I was there once myself.

So you can't come up with a sentence that satisfies the criteria of his little test.

Why didn't you simply say so?

I have already pass the test. I gave you more than a sentence. You gave me nothing in return but a cop-out. I do not have to prove my faith nor myself to you or to any other man. I believe as I do, I'll let you do the same.

I thought it was a brilliant description. But it has been the position of logical empiricism for years, just not stated quite so succinctly. As soon as you have knowledge - objective, moves-a-meter - type knowledge, faith is no longer necessary. You no longer have to pretend to know something.

All these claims about god, heaven and hell are just people pretending they know something they don't know.

Simple.

And you know this... How? Faith? Since the topic is how faith is defined you have just provided a wonderful example of claiming to know something you really don't know.

Thank you.

Ummm... No, you didn't . You seemed to be confusing faith with trust.

No one said you had to "prove your faith.". That's the whole point! How can you possibly prove something you don't know, but pretend you do?

I have always had faith in my judgement. I have heard it said that one should have the faith OF god and not in god.

You do know that it is the atheists that will inherit the earth after all the theists kill each other off in the name of their gods, don't you know?

Leap and the net shall appear.

That is faith - blind faith
