Is it me? It seems that the least knowledgeable people on this forum are the ones that have a trigger finger for the "ignore" button and the second you disagree with them or tell them something contrary to what the want to hear - they go to the ignore option faster than a game show contestant going for the buzzer.
Do they realize that by doing so, they are potentially cutting off some valuable and meaningful discourse - often directly related to their question? There are many out there - Dino, Chris T, and others that could benefit from strong, solid answers to their questions, and they might actually learn something in the process. . . Instead they surround themselves with people that agree with them, but often (not always) with a similar level of knowledge and maybe even less experience. . .SMH . . .
At least their existence is completely blissful . . .

YOu have to have a thick skin around here. Other than one user who blocked me because I belittled his constant Chemtrail posts (OK, I was asking for it) and Chris T who deserves to be ignored, I occasionally run across users who have blocked me for some slight or other. Which is a mystery, since for every blocked account, I get 15 DMs thanking me for advice and comments.
What did George Carlin say? The people who pissed you off in High School are the same personality types that piss you off in later life?
Indeed, they must be blissful.

Of course. But it is an observation that I find completely bewildering and totally counterproductive to their goal, don't you agree?
What a price to pay to be eternally blissful . . .

I'm sorry, but I cannot understand what the subject matter has to do with the title.
I got put on the ignore list of someone who posts an enormous amount of flower photos. I once had some harmless comments about some of the photos. That was enough to land me on the ignore list. The only people who are still able to comment are the ones who make feel good comments.

Filtering out disliked comments by "ignoring" a person so they cannot comment on your postings.
(Not camera filters)

Oh, I see; it has nothing to do with photography. There's a name for that kind of titling, but I can't remember it.

I think Gene meant to say
not the glass kind.

I understand. But it still puzzles me.

Closing the door to new information by Ignoring people is a disservice to everyone else who comes here to learn and freely discuss controversial topics.
It is self defeating and may be evidence of lack of character and fragile self esteem.

People use filters (ignore list) to avoid reading things that conflict with their mindset.

YES
NOT the glass kind - guilty as charged. Brain and hands not particularly well coordinated when I wrote the title. Oops!

Off topic?
Unrelated?
Out of place?
Out of order?
Unconnected?
Not germane?
Inconsequent?
Inappurtenant?
Inapposite?
Off the point?
Pointless?
Do any of the above help to trigger your memory?

Putting aside personal stuff, you are 100% correct - it lowers the bar for the entire community - in addition to preventing the person doing the ignoring from learning - because they are having a hissy fit. I do not use the ignore list, even with the most intransigent posters - because I feel that I am not above learning something, even from these people. If nothing more, it gives me new approaches to deal with mortally stubborn people in hopes of breaking through. At the very least, it gives me a chance to improve on my patience - though I must say that ArtBob was quite a challenge. I do not have anyone on an ignore list, though I am sure that I am on many ignore lists - their loss, I suppose.
