Just wanted to give a shout out to Midwest Camera in Columbus Ohio, especially to Mat. I learned more from him in 15 minutes about my D850 than I was able to figure out on my own in 9 months. I was also able to pick up a new camera strap and Think Tank case. It was well worth the day trip. I only wish I had done it sooner.

Rede Sky At Night,
We should be glad that in today's age of on line business there are still brick and block stores that no only are honest and have people like Mat at Midwest Camera who really takes care of walk in customers needs and takes time to make sure the person is well taken care. Kudos for Mat. (Other stores that do the same and I have experiences with are B&H, Adorama, Keth).

I'm also lucky to have a great camera store close by. Bergen County Camera (Westwood NJ) is awesome. Everyone there are pros. Wouldn't buy anything anywhere else.

It's wonderful to have a place you can go to knowing that you won't get taken advantage of.
Yes, Midwest Camera in Columbus deserves kudos for the many years it has served the Ohio area. I live 150 miles away and had a bigger store in my own city, but made the day trip to Columbus with a group of area photographer friends about five times a year! We were always treated right by the owners and employees, and developed a solid relationship with them. They always gave us honest answers about products and steered us away from problem childs. Thank you Jim (owner) and all your employees !
Camera stores are an endangered breed. Cherish them.

Have driven to Midwest many times for sound advise for equipment and suggestions. I am a Mideast fan from Cincinnati.
Just curious, in all those 9 months, how many times did you actually read the manual?!
I'll have to check them out.
Thanks,

More than I can count. And I have pages flagged all over the place. And I own and have read Understanding Exposure. And I just got David Busch’s book on the D850 though I’ve just started reading it. But having someone in front of me with my hands on the camera and Mat telling me what to do opened up so much for me. And he was excited about his job and so patient. It was a great experience and more helpful for me than any book has ever been.

I agree 100% . It's like watching a video showing how to do something vs reading how to do it . And you may remember it longer too I feel .Tommy

I wonder if this is the same midwest photo that used to be located in an old church in Columbus?
No billnikon, that store in the old church, was called: "Columbus Camera Group" and was owned and operated by different individuals. CCG sold only used equipment, they were not dealers of new cameras. They were located on East Blake St. That business has closed the storefront and sold the bldg.
Midwest Camera was located on High Street for over twenty years until they moved a few years ago to their current new digs. Midwest also sells used equipment but concentrates more on new equipment sales, and rental/sales of pro equipment. They also have a large classroom to teach different aspects on photography. Midwest also has a darkroom they rent out to various artists. Well worth a trip to them to see the operation and talk cameras with the knowledgeable staff.
When myself and a group of fellow photographers from the Cleveland Ohio area made the trip South to Columbus, we always visited both establishments.

I highly recommend John Greengo classes on Creative Live. He has fast start classes on a variety of cameras. I bought 2 of his fast start classes and was very satisfied.
Nice to see comments about Midwest Photo in Columbus. I've been a fan and customer for years. They are friendly, super knowledgeable and will work and help you get what you need and won't push things on you. And they will work with you to be competitive with with the big online sellers - but they do it live. If you're local to the area, they are practically a must. And always well worth a trip.
