Hello UHH users. On a recent vacation one of our family used his iPhone and all his photos are in the HEIC format. I found out on line what this is. There is a free download called iMazing which apparently will convert this format to JPG, which can then be viewed by anyone. As I understand it, you would need to download this onto the computer. As of now, we can't open these photos on our Microsoft Windows system computer. Does anyone have experience with iMazing, and if so, is it safe to use? Or is there something better? Thank you in advance. JimR
Search under HEIC Photos and there are videos that explain the whole conversion process. Wasn’t it nice of Apple to introduce this inconvenient conversion step in iOS 11?

Head to Settings>Photos and scroll down to Transfer to Mac or PC. Here you can choose what format is sent to a computer when you plug it in. I tested this using Image Capture app on the Mac (you’ll find it in your Applications folder). With the iPhone set to “Automatic,” photos show up as JPGs on the Mac. With it set to “Keep Originals,” the HEIC file is transferred. This lets you archive either the original photo, or save the picture in a more compatible format (JPG)."
Thank you for all your quick replies. Specifically, I was asking if anyone has used that iMazing download, to convert. I don't have access to the family member's phone as he is not local.
Lsimplins, thank you very much. The NY Times article includes a paragraph on iMazing, and with that endorsement, I'll give it a try. JimR.
