Road Trip
Next Friday heading from Wisconsin to Oregon coast. This is 3rd road trip in 4yrs heading west. Going to visit some places missed previously such as Lassen NP, Pinacles NP, Death Valley, Antelope Canyon, Chaco Canyon. Revisit Redwoods by Crescent City CA(Jedediah Smith SP), Hwy 101 along Oregon coast up to Lincoln City, and many other places going and returning. As with prior road trips got a month to enjoy...
Previously took my whole photo kit, this time just the 6d2 with 24-105L, Sigma 17-35, battery charger and extra memory cards. Last trip used 7d2 with Tamron 18-250 almost exclusively.
If you’re going to Antelope Canyon at Page, AZ, don’t miss Horseshoe Bend, which is also there. It’s an experience to look over the edge, to say the least. It’s less than five miles south of Page.
Check out Hood River, Oregan. It’s a wind surphing Mecca because the wind howls through the Columbia River gorge at that point. You’ll see tricks and magnificent scenery.
My kind of trip! On the Oregon Coast, if you can handle stairs, stop at Cape Perpetua between Florence and Newport and spend a day at the tidepools and Devil's Churn starting an hour or so before low tide, the lower the tide the better - minus tides are best. Lots of pics for your short lens.
I heard whales are active off the coast, too. You might want a longer lens for those.
Thanks All! More info the better. We're also going to spend some time in lesser touristy towns in Colorado...

Since you'll be in the area, you should stop by Aztec Ruins(Aztec,NM), and Mesa Verde, between Mancos, and Cortez, Colorado.

I second that. I went that way 12 years ago, and missed it. One of my greatest regrets of the trip. I saw it from a commercial plane once, and always wanted to go to it. I don't know if I ever will get out there again, but dream about it!
Love trips like this. I've only had the chance to do one (camping all the way) - from Ohio to Wyoming/Montana several years ago, hitting the Badlands, Mt Rushmore, (right at Sturgis time also), Custer state park. Spent the night camped in close view to Devils Tower, then Jackson Hole, The Tetons, Yellowstone and finally Glacier. So much fun. Enjoy your trip, take LOTS of photos..
One of the guys mentioned taking to 2-way roads were passable I totally agree. Hereâs favorite of mine a few years ago. Was on the California redwood highway
If you're going to Antelope Canyon, it's less than 2 hours to Monument Valley, worth a day or two if you've never been there. Goulding's Trading Post isn't the Ritz, but it's ok. Eat at the hotel in the park, not at Goulding's.
Just north a few miles from Del Norte, Co is the "elephant rocks" area and "la Ventana Arch" also called the natural arch on some maps You can drive right to them on dirt road.
That should be prime time for fall color esp in the higher elevations of Colo such as Kebler Pass near Crested Butte, Co. or Cottonwood Pass with a pretty lake and of course Maroon Bells at Aspen, Co.
In Death Valley there is the "Devils Racetrack" (boulders make interesting paths across old lakebed)and the Eureka sand dunes in the Saline Valley (now part of the Park) and not far from there are the world's oldest living things the bristlecone pines (some over 4500 yrs old) very picturesque in the white mountains of Calif.
Well in northern California now. Did Badlands, Tetons, Oregon - mostly coast, and Redwoods. Today more Redwoods then heading toward Lassen NP then southern Utah....
Home, after above part of trip did Lassen NP and a hike to water fall, then through Nevada with stop at Cathedral Gorge SP, then awesome drive through canyon on entering Utah, then on to Page UT and Antelope Canyon tour (1 of 7 available), then entered Navajo National Monument, Chaco Culture National Historical Park (awesome!!) Aztec Ruins National Monument (like a mini Chaco canyon). Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP, million dollar highway (Durango to Ouray) then cross country to Estes Park CO, and then home with remains of hurricane Rosa catching us in Colorado... 2900 Pictures, still sorting to see which can put out....
