Nice plant but the roots will cause foundation problems. Might be coconut palm.

It's just a banana tree. It will die w. the first frost.

Yes, that's a banana. They don't tolerate freezing, will die back, but usually return in the spring.

It is a banana plant - actually not a tree. They grow quickly and in about 18 months will produce a single bunch of bananas, the die back with new growth coming up around the base.

So it grew that tall in one season? Pretty fast. Someone has to do a time lapse of that.

Banana, surprised to see it in Pittsburgh, you must have had a tropical summer. The shock of November freezes will do it in pretty quick.

Yes its a banana. We had one by our back door in Austin. It got cut off at the ground every fall, and came back every spring.

Yes, it does look more like a very large plant than it does a tree.

It didn't grow that big. It was just planted this Spring, don't know why they would go through the trouble planting something that big just to see it die come Winter.
