Recent review I just read says The R is an effort on the part of Canon to dive to the bottom of the barrel. Interesting comment since it seems to the a re-do of the not widely accepted Canon 5D MKIV.

I was going to get a Sony system but I'm going to wait and see how the R performs and the compatibility with my collection of EF lenses.

Someone posted earlier when talking about the latest from Nikon that they plan to wait until it's out for awhile to make sure it doesn't have any kinks. Good advice for this Canon EOS R, too.

They appear to have a few EF to RF adapters in the pipeline. I use a EF to M adapter on my M50 and it works great.

Here's Ken Rockwell on the "not widely accepted" 5D Mark IV:

"I'm so impressed that Canon chose to introduce this 5D Mk IV. Canon didn't need to; it already has this covered in the 5D Mk III that runs at 6 FPS, and the 5DSR has more resolution but less speed at about the same price. The 5D series sells very few cameras compared to Canon's APS-C DSLRs, so we ought to be glad that Canon actively develops new models that don't do much for Canon's profits (and eat into sales of other Canon cameras), but give us all more camera choices.

Bravo Canon!"

The not widely accepted 5D Mark IV? When I was at the Great British Fly-in at the Smithsonian Air and Space Annex in Chantilly Virginia commemorating the 100th anniversary of the RAF, I saw more 5D Mark 4's than any other higher end camera model. I was actually shocked by how many of them I saw as well as other higher end Canon cameras in general . I also saw very few higher end Nikon cameras by comparison and although I was looking for them, I did not spot even one Sony full-frame camera. Even the RAF photographic crew was using two Canon 5D Mark IVs.

I'm assuming your post is tongue in cheek and you really have no intention of ditching your current camera for one that is not even available for review yet.

I'm not sure why you feel the 5D IV is not widely accepted. I for one really like mine. Like many others, mine is my daily shooter and it hasn't let me down yet. Whenever I go to an event, the camera I see most often is a 5D IV. A whole lot of people have them.

I personally am sticking with Sony. I was a pro Nikon and Canon shooter for 40 years and switched from Canon to Sony back in January 2017 and have never looked back. This Canon release has some very nice features, but lacks too many others to be useful for my professional work. I wish nothing but success for Canon and their fullframe mirrorless cameras, just as i wish Nikon success with their new Z-cameras. I have no doubt both Nikon and Canon will sell a huge amount of these cameras. And Nikon and Canon fans will be thrilled with them. That is all good.

For me personally I am sticking with Sony and all its top proven features and performance. Sony has more to come with its upcoming A7000 and A7SIII and they both should be excellent. And don't forget Panasonic is next up with its fullframe mirrorless camera to be announced Sept 25th. Cheers
