Like Alpenglow, except, well, a LOT smaller....

Was at Wells Beach, Maine, earlier this week and had the benefit of some nice sunrises at low tide. The first reminds me of, if not alpenglow, the leading edge of a lava flow (it is, BTW, a focus stack). The others are more run-of-the-mill pretty-sky images, but (for me, anyway) still enjoyable.

As a fan of your work I'm most cheered by your kind words. The textures and sheen on the rocks in the first one keep trying to pull me in the direction of B&W, but I don't think it works so well without the color. Thanks again!

Thanks, photophile! I guess what I meant is that I got lucky with--and can't take credit for--the lovely colors. But yes, I did try to work the compositions.

That is very evident and your hard work paid off. Really wonderful reflections and light. #1 could be an abstract since we don't have any clues regarding scale. Super cool!

Thanks, Linda, I appreciate the thoughtful comments from an astute observer! Yes, of course being there I couldn't help knowing the scale for #1; still it occurred to me that there was, as you say, no reference. But I didn't want to pull back too much to show, say, people, and I didn't want to use a gimmick like a footprint or seashell, which would have been a distraction. And yes, I got lucky with the tide, which had pulled out within the hour, leaving that nice, reflective sheen on the rocks.

Thanks for taking a look and for your kind comments, Sylvia! So often when I travel I get no sky interest at all, so it was a lot of fun working in those colors.

Thanks--was trying to go at least a little beyond the obvious. Appreciate your thoughts!
