Hello All,
I am posting two photos for the first time on this forum. I am not nor do I pretend to be good at photography. I am 73 yoa and just trying to learn a few things to take better photos of landscapes, some wildlife and family. I use a CanonT4i with a Tamron 17-50 F2.8 Lens (which I am trying to learn how to use properly). The first was shot in RAW and not touched, the second one I tried my best to edit it so it looked pretty much the way I saw it, if I over edited it, please be gentle, I am trying to learn LR also. Any constructive criticism is welcome, also any words of advice are also welcome.
Thank you for looking.

Welcome to the forum. I like the 2nd one.
It looks awesome...all it needs is the smell of burning wood..
Wecome to the Hedgehog forum. The second image is detailed, colorful and interesting. — Ralph
Welcome, nice submission, a lot of us are in your age group with various levels of experience in photography. Keep shooting and enjoying.

Joe, Welcome to the forum. Great post processing to your image. Great color and tonality. Yes, the key is to create that image as you remember it. You did great.

You did a nice job. The raw image is flat, typical, but your “developed” version looks good to me. I am not a fan of the overprocessed, color saturated, high contrast images we often see passed off as photographic art.
One FYI, you can get good results shooting JPEG, with no time needed to process. JPEG is a good teacher as the exposure latitude is slightly less than raw. I know people here all rave about raw and if you like to sit behihd the computer then shoot raw, but if you like to shoot then shoot and use JPEG to learn to expose correctly. Spend more time shooting and less behind the computer. JMHO.

Welcome. If possible, zoom with your feet so that you can get all of the subject in the frame without cutting off the bottom. I like what you did with the colors, etc on the second image, which perfectly conveys what you saw and what was happening.
So, who lit the fire?
Good work on the second one.
Another vote for the second image. Try always, when possible to show the entire subject.
Welcome. Does this mean that you didn't get your wish?
I like the shots, especially the second one, but what was going on there? Is that the shed over a well? Looks like the bottom is covered in foil? Just curious.

2 has good contrast and details. Thanks for your service.
I like the processing on the second one. As other people said, just try not to cut off the bottom. Hope you didn't need to call the Fire Department.
I like it. For newby old codger, you did remarkably well.
