A couple of years ago I bought a Wimberly Plamp. I think I paid something like $40.00 for it. It seemed like a good idea in this article I saw, but I never make it work for me, and it began to just lie about.
More recently, I tried to use it again, and found a way for it to work really well for me. However, somewhere along the line I lost one of it's "lips," an orange piece that attached to the jaws.
Once it began working for me, I emailed Wimberly asking to purchase a new lip. They responded by just sending it to me for free!!! So, I put it on my Plamp and went out to use it, and before I know it I've lost the pin that holds the lip on. So, again, I email Wimberly and ask to buy a new pin. Well, this time they send me several lips and several pins, and some instructions on how to install the pin so I won't lose it; again, all for free!!!
Well, I'm impressed, and I sort of feel like I owe them something, so I thought I'd post it here to give them a good review, and to let you folks know how they operate. I'm sure they don't send out everything for free, but, IMHO, this kind of service deserves some kudos.
I agree. Good on you and good on them. I am going to look into purchasing one or two, thanks for the reminder.
Great customer service Wimberly!

That's good to know. I love my Plamp. It doesn't work too good when attached to my tripod because any movement of the camera/tripod also moved the macro subject around. I also purchased their stake and attach the Plamp to that. Works much better than attaching it to the tripod.

I know what you mean about attaching to the tripod causing problems. Instead of their stake, I've taken to driving my hiking pole into the ground, adjusting it's height, and attaching the Plamp to that.

What sort of hiking pole do you have that can be driven into the ground, if you don't mind sharing?
Keep asking for different pieces and soon you shall have several. No, I am glad to hear that good service rules in that company. That is a great product.

It's a not too expensive one I got at REI perhaps 20 years ago. There were a few attachments one could put on the bottom, the end that hits the ground, but when you take them off, you're left with a hard metal point. Not as easy to drive into the ground as Wimberly's, which is a bit like a screw driver, but it's taller, and the height is to some extent adjustable. In my yard, the ground is able to support grass and such, so it's relatively soft, and not very rocky. It sometimes takes a couple of shoves, but I'm only 140 lbs, and it goes in relatively easily, and stands upright if the weight isn't too much.

I've been using my plamp well over 10 years, so far I never had anything fail, I use it for all sorts of things (for ex., I have a tiny miniature mirror that I attaché to it and the plamp is mostly attached to my tripod, so I can use the reflection of the mirror, to highlight llttle things or light up things were there's no light!
May I see a photo of your tiny miniature mirror rig?
