Many of us have come to trust Steve Perry, a member of this forum, for his unbiased reviews and technical advice/tips....particularly with Nikon products.

Steve has just posted his preliminary review of the soon to be released Nikon Z6 and Z7 full-frame, mirrorless cameras. It is definitely worth the watch!

Just watched it and after all the discussion earlier today on UHH, he put things in perspective for me. Worth watching for sure.

Yeah, very interesting.

I LOVE the way the AF points cover the entire image area!

But I have to agree w/Steve.... Too many unknowns or obvious shortcomings for me to ever consider using one for sports photography (similar to wildlife work that Steve is talking about).

And, as Steve says, it's all based on what we've seen and read... not on hand-on experience with the cameras. Things we are skeptical about now might turn out to be non-issues. Plus some actual "issues" might be corrected pretty quickly via firmware updates, possibly even before the cameras start shipping.

I'm actually a Canon shooter, so what interests me most about these Nikons is what they might push Canon to do in response!

Not worth the cost and never will be. Far too many shortcomings!

I have to total agree with Steve and I have seen Mat Granger's review on the Z cameras as well as several others and they are all saying the same thing, Nikon's first attempt at full frame mirror-less cameras are not there yet, maybe with future models they will correct the shortcomings, however the two models coming out do not entice me to switch from a DSLR.

I think one of the shortcomings is only ONE card. IF that one cards fails during a shoot, you are SOL.

That will be a dealbreaker for pros, I would think.

The exact same misgivings were said about Sony's first Alpha cameras, and look at the financial success that has been. I think we are far too quick to judge a new design we have not even see or used for ourselves.
