Sony A7ii Focusing

How well does the Sony A7ii focus in low light? For example, early morning sunrise when landscape is still dark. Also, can you manually set the focus to infinity?

No camera focuses easily in low light. You can set it to manual focus. You just need to find something far away to focus on.

I know. But some cameras are better than others, and new models keep getting better. I'm asking owners of a Sony A7ii what they think of the low light focusing. I'm considering buying one but I want to hear specifically from users of the A7ii.

I own an A7II but I use manual focus Leica, Zeiss and Voigtlander lenses on it with an M adapter.

They are easy to focus outdoors, unlike autofocus lenses, because they have a hard stop at infinity.

How difficult is it to focus manually in low light? Do you use focus peaking to do so? Do you know how to focus to infinity with a Sony lens? The reason for my last question is that with a Nikon lens, if you turn the ring to the hard stop, you will not be in focus. You have to line up the hash mark with the infinity symbol. So, if you are in low light, you need a flashlight, and it is easy to bump it out of focus.

In low light it's difficult to focus manually or with focus peaking or when using autofocus - all for the same reason. You need the sharp edges and contrast that you get naturally under normal lighting.

If you use a manual focus Nikon lens, the hard stop will get you to infinity. You can't do that with an autofocus lens.

Very low light focusing is weak.
Manual focusing is equally tough.
There's no stop at infinity for most of the lenses for this camera.

However, it (the A7R2 at least) has a digital focus distance display in the viewfinder, at least for some lenses (all the Sony lenses, plus my Zeiss primes, at least).
It's tolerably accurate. But it's probably worth calibrating the distance in broad daylight to make sure.
