I would have said "wild" horses but last time I posted, a HHG reminded me that the horses are not indigenous to America. I understand that but the Pryor Mountain horses have been genetically tested to go back to the Spanish horses. They have been here for centuries and live "wild." The number of horses in the Pryor's is carefully monitored and controlled through birth control; something that is unfortunately not true throughout the US. My husband prefers "action" photos; I lean toward pictures that show either their relationships or their personality. Thanks so much for looking and please feel free to comment.

Super pictures.
Actually horses were indigenous to N Amerca but were exterminated until the Spanish reintroduced them.
The Wooly Mamoth went extinct forever

Wonderful! Love the energy in these, my favorite subject. I am glad, in a way, that there are not as many great horse images on this site as there are of flowers and birds! I would be here 24/7!😄

The person who took exception to my referring to them as wild said the indigenous horses were completely different but when I was doing research, I found that not everyone agrees with that. Regardless, I love watching them. Thanks for taking a look.

Would “feral” be a more appropriate term than “wild”?

Some would argue that it is. My personal belief is that’s a term those who want to de-romanticize the horses use. If they’ve lived as “wild” for centuries, in my mind they are wild.
Not all “wild” horse bands are the same. When we drove back through New Mexico, the Navajo Nation had just announce a $50 bounty for each free-roaming horse turned in. There are literally thousands of horses that are close to starving because of drought in the SW. And in the New Mexico case, there has been little herd management on the Navajo land. Some of the horses have simply been released into nature when their owners could no longer care for them. Their goal now is to reduce the number to a manageable figure. And in the New Mexico news, these horses were referred to as “feral.”
