I ran across this guy as I was trimming my hibiscus plant. Luckily, he stuck around while I ran in the house to get the camera. Pictures were taken with a Nikon D90, AF-SDX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-55 mm lens, f5.6, 1/60, ISO 500, at 55mm RAW.
I love these guys. We have several every year in our yard. Their "nests" are very unique and I've learned to spot them and watch for the hatch. Great captures!
Great set of photographs and you can see why they are called "praying" Mantis~

Great set of photographs and you can see why they are called "praying" Mantis~ They are called that because of the way their front legs are folded, making them look like they are praying.

Donrent, you made me laugh. My sister's kids had a pm for a pet. He stayed on the drapes. Once I babysat for her and those big eyes were giving me the creeps. When I told her that she said it was harmless, that all it does is pray. I said well it looks like it may be saying Grace before meals.

I've been finding some young ones around our house recently. What do their nests look like? How would you spot them?
