The last thing I saw officially from Nikon is that an adapter is under development. I have seen rumors to support what you say. Is there anything from Nikon that confirms 'no loss of function?

Just read Nikons original release teaser. Clearly stated there with no ambiguity.

Unless I am not reading the same teaser as you, I see nothing about no loss of function. It also says "Under Development".

Additionally, a new mount adapter is being developed for the new mirrorless camera. This will work with the F-Mount NIKKOR lenses that are part of the Nikon digital-SLR system, adding to the variety of choices for photographers.

I hope there is more, and you are not reading something into this that isn't there.

I see no ambiguity in that statement to compatibility.
"Under development" just means what it says. Odds of it coming out a little while after thr cameras are good, but it may still be released at the same time. No one will know for sure for 12 more days.

There are plenty of adapters out now that let any number of lenses "Work With" any number of cameras.
If Nikon's adapter will work as you believe I would think they would have made that very clear. That is a big deal!

I just hope you are correct. As you said, we should know soon.

Well without interpreting what Nikon said. I would say the adapter will only support AF on lenses with built in motor. That's my guess. We can wait and see.

All you meed to do is lookt at the Nikon FT-1 adapter to mount the same selection of F Mount lenses to the Nikon 1 series cameras, with FULL functionality. It was released exactly 1 month after the Nikon 1 J1 camera release.
To me the only question is whether or not Nikon will also develop a second adapter with a focus drive motor to AF the older mechanical screw drive AF lenses. Similar to what Sony did with their LA-EA 4 adapter. THAT would be a BIG plus for the Nikon compatibility lineup.

From B&H overview.

Autofocusing is possible when using AF-S lenses, but focus mode must be set to AF-S (Single AF) and AF-area mode is fixed at Single-point, using only the center focus point.

Such a limit of capability would be absolutely rediculous and definitely not in line with Nikons product development history. I suggest B&H's "reviewer" is a big Canon fan and is speculated in a very "hopeful" manner since Nikon has already developed and released the needed technology 8 years ago in the FT-1 adapter.

That is information on the FT-1. I later found the same information on the Nikon site. It was not a review.

Are you boys gonna play nice? Maybe we should "wait and see."

I was wondering the same thing.

I have an FT-1 and a Nikon 1 camera. Used it with MANY lenses and have always been impressed by the combo. Never found an AF-S lens it didn't fully function with. The 105 Micro is amazing on that little sensor, as is the 600mm F4, although that combo certainly LOOKS pretty funny. But it all workd quite well.

Maybe I should start saving my pennies sooner, rather than later.

Looks like I misspoke. Living so close to Philly as Bill and I do, we sometimes don't think about the aggressive, boarder-line confrontational way people here talk and whether folks from other parts of the country might take offense, or that debating on things that are only rumored about and speculated on is a commonplace occurrence. I'm glad to see that Shooter is comfortable with such banter and I will keep my 2-cents out of it.

I have the FT-1 with my J5, all lens are fully functional and sharp as a tack. When I'm carrying a large lens with the small J5 attached to it, sometimes it's hard to notice the camera is even attached.
