The P1000 is out and has a couple of improvements that limited had limited the P900's appeal. The P1000 shoots RAW and it has up to 3000mm zoom.

Below is a link to four recent topics on UHH. I'm sure you'll find a lot more via Google:

It is the P1000 and its COMING in September.

It is definitely NOT "out" as some may like you to believe, only announced.

I believe the release date in the United States is September 18 of this year. It may be available elsewhere already. It is not an upgrade, but a completely new model with additional features the P900 does not have. I hope mine will arrive before the migratory waterfowl leave for the winter.

I have had more fun with my P900 than any other camera. I welcome the additional power of the lens, RAW, better viewfinder, etc...

I would be surprised, what with coming out with the P1000, that Nikon would do any upgrades to the P900. The P900 has sold well and maintained its price level since introduction without upgrades, and obviously Nikon would just harm the potential sales of the P1000 (at nearly $400 per camera higher price) by upgrading the P900. I think us P900 owners have the final P900 that we are going to get.

You may not refer to the P1000 as an upgrade to the P900, but it is clearly the replacement model for the P900. I am sure Nikon will continue to sell the P900 for some time though, because of its popularity. The prices of the P900 should come down eventually.
