Yes, it is dead. I tried to make it still by putting it in the fridge, but that did not work.
I could not get a suitable photo from it while alive since it continually moved about.
I used a few drops of lighter fluid on a cotton ball in a sealed jar to kill it.
I discovered lighter fluid long time ago when I was collecting insects.

Highly detailed and well focused. Good job on such a tiny subject. Unfortunate that it wouldn't cooperate for its photo session for I find that spiders make interesting and eye-catching subjects.

I discovered lighter fluid too, ca. 1950. The biggest problem is that it often results in muscles contracting strongly, and not relaxing, often drying in a tetanic position unable to be repositioned when pinned or breaking off (noticed your spider has a missing leg, that way when found?). Still, very useful when Cyanide is unavailable to a kid. Patience is the best solution with active spiders -- they often wear out fairly soon. Once had a student try to 'calm' a wolf spider in the high Sierra by cooling it without success; turns out the spider normally hunts on the snow/ice surface! Very interesting spider! Haven't ID'd it yet.
