There is a smart phone app that I discovered earlier this year that makes it really easy to identify flowers and plants of all kinds. It is called "Picture This" and is free. I use it a lot and it is amazingly accurate.

Love that tree. Looks great in the winter with the bark. Of note: they are first to go dormant in the fall and last to come out in the spring. Many have been fooled thinking they are dead but they are not. Very interesting tree.
Oh, I forgot to mention that it looks like a crepe myrtle to me also.
