Putting my kit Nikon 18-55 through its paces with some unknown macro lens that came as part of the bundle. Post processing using Photoscape. My D5300 does surprising well. As just a hobbyist I'm contented with what will be my gear for years to come.
Whatever your unknown macro is, keep it. These are nice, sharp photo's. I don't blame you for sticking with the D5300 either. I have a D5000 that I use a lot. I bought the camera for the articulating LCD viewfinder but it is so much more. You're on the right track. Don't let anybody tell you differently.
You got great detail in these close ups. The D5300 is an excellent camera and you are using it well.

The difference between this and my last SLR [Minolta Maxxim 7000] from many years ago is amazing. I now see the world in a new perspective. I have my old hobby back and a lot cheaper. My friends think I've gone off my rocker taking pics of bugs and flowers, that is until they see the results. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
