To Edit Or Not To Edit?

The ol battle between a lot of photographers is whether to edit your end photography or leave it as it was taken. I am trying to determine whether I should edit my photography. Sometimes the camera just cant see what I see and in other instances, I like to radically change the perspective of the shot.

What does the group feel in regards to photo manipulation?

Here is an example of actual and edited. What do people like.

If your eyes see things like the before or the after versions, you should see a doctor. The saturation is turned up quite a bit beyond reality on the before versions ...

Lol, sometimes the eye picks up details my camera cant. Like the moon for instance, i know my camera has a lot to do with it but even with my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV Digital Camera i could set the camera to see the moon but the background would be compromised!

Terrible edits unless you are going for some artsy look.

I like the before edit pictures when it comes to showcasing the pics but it seems people like the after edits to hang on thwir walls lol.

I like the before edits. The edited photos seem overdone. Try a lighter edit.....a little dehaze and toning down highlights would be a good start. I was taught that minor adjustments are usually all that's necessary for a good photo.to be great.

Depends on what you plan to do with them I suppose. I love to edit, often it brings the photo to what I saw and not what the camera saw. You do not anyone's permission, however, to edit anyway that suits you. It can be a lot of fun actually.

This is a choice of the artist and what the artist wants to create. Although both are within the same genre I see quite a difference between edit and manipulate. That said, I prefer to process my images. Does that processing change them? Yes, I burn/dodge to achieve the tonal values I wish for the final image. But, I don't look at that process as editing or manipulating. Here we delve into the area of semantics.

As for your examples, They're OK. If you like that "look", go for it.

Thank you Bob, I appreciate your insight. I like both but for different reasons, one is more reflective of what I saw and the other is a dreamy art that some people have asked me for and I was contemplating making art instead of photography but nah, photography is much better lol, but Ill probably do both and center on taking better shots
