Oh nice. My first car was a custom 50 Merc. I later had a 54 two door Hardtop... Brings back fond memories. Wish I had a photo of the 50, it was a cool car!

Very nice! This was my 'bucket list' car back in the 50's. Never got one so I had to settle for a '51 Ford that I customized with frenched headlights, Tijuana black tuck & roll interior, British racing green paint job, and to the surprise of many at a stop light a Chevy V8 mated to a Chevy tyranny. That was fun car!!
If I had money....I tell you what I'd do: I'd go downtown and buy a Mercury too! (I'm crazy 'bout a Mercury)

Is this what they call a Lead Sled?
Nice shots.
Must be a young squirt driving it. It is pretty low to the ground.

Alan Jackson!!!
Alan Jackson? I thought it was an original by the Steve Miller Band, from 1968. Turns out it was originally done by the K.C Douglas Trio in 1948 in kind of a Mississippi Delta Blues style.

Yes! Usually done to a 49-51 Mercury or Ford "shoebox". When customizing, they would use new sheet-metal and molten lead to fill in the body panels - soft metal, easier to shape. This was a few years before "bondo".
In late 50's my brother had a black one with black and red rolled and pleated seats. Hot car. Good memories. My three brothers and I celebrated oldest brother's 79th birthday yesterday. In more than 2 hours around the lunch table we discussed our cars of that decade: 41 Chevy we bought for $30; 56 Olds 88 two door hardtop; 55 Catalina yellow convertible; 59 Impala 348 with 3 deuces; 56 Bel Air Sport Coupe V8; 50 Studebaker; a couple of 57 Chevy 210s and one 57 BelAir; my 51 Fleetline. So many of our memories
are related to our cars. wish we had photos of more of them. Our dad has been gone 46 years. One of our favorite photos of him has him standing beside his 65 Galaxie 500, smoking a pipe and wearing his cowboy straw hat.
Those were neat old cars; I remember them well.
