For me at least, ON1 Photo Raw has replaced Photoshop (most of the time) because of it's simpler and more intuitive tools. This article discusses 4 of the main ones that are used.

Yes, I like On1. I've had it since it was OnOne. : )

I use it, too. Faststone, Gimp, and On1 are my go-to processors. On1 is the only one I have paid for, the other two are free.

I haven’t tried it yet, but the workflow looks very similar to Photoshop. Those who do, which specific tools or processes do you find easier in this package?

I downloaded it this morning on the 30 day trial. Then I got an email saying it’s only $49 if purchased by July 31st. I played with it a bit, but so far I’m not sold. I have PSE 2018. I’m hoping On1 is easier for doing layers.

I've used Photoshop for years, but On1 has some very appealing features and a nice workflow. I'm using it far more often these days.

I have used it prior to the On1 name as Picture Perfect and even beyond that as individual tools, but I use them as filters in Photoshop as Photoshop is far more powerful than On1.

From a Photography point of view, there is very little that ON1 can't do compared to PS when using layers/masks. Now with non-photographic creative graphics, that's a whole nuther situation. 😉

So can anyone explain to me how or why the layers and masking tools are easier or more intuitive? I don't find PS all that challenging in that area, it's more the other tools I don't use often that slow me down, but I expect they'd slow me down in any software.

If you understand PS layers and masking, I recommend getting the 30 day ON1 Photo Raw free trial and use their similar tools to understand how much easier they are to manipulate. Hands on is always much better than a written explanation.

In photoshop you can use 20 different ways but the best is Color Range. I am sure if you looked at professional editing nearly 100% are using photoshop CC. There are much simpler programs for the average photographer and this may be a very good choice for them...

The masking/selection tools are much easier to use and do a much better and faster job.

I find the Adobe masking tools competent and intuitive, but I think ON1 is worth checking out. Thanks for a straight answer.

Andy.
