During the day, my wife's home town is not a particularly pretty place, but every once in a while, you see something there that is magnificent. This pagoda along the river being one of them. In China, it is one of the more pristine examples of a pagoda that I have seen. I love the colors and the architecture. It oozes "classic" in every detail, I think. I also love the blue sky and subtle mountains in the background and consider this a classical setting for this structure as well.
When entering a pagoda, it is proper and polite to walk around the building three times. Once inside, it is much like a church and quiet reverence and respect are required. In the pagodas that I have entered, each floor has a separate statue of a particular Buddha (there are 19 Buddhas), and depending on what you are praying for will generally dictate which you will pray to.
The spire at the top of the structure also has meaning. Depending on the type of Buddhism you practice will dictate the meaning of these as well. The Japanese generally use stone for their spires and have a different meaning from the metal ones used by the Chinese.
Hope you enjoy this image and have a great day!
I read through the narrative before looking at the image..Was not expecting such a beautiful structure. Well done!
