Ok, that’s really good to know. I’ve just started really getting into photography over the past year. My main needs in a camera bag is waterproof, light weight, and durable so that if I drop t on hikes then my equipment won’t be damaged. I usually empty things from my current bag that I don’t need before hikes but I’m still stuck with an over sized bag with empty padded compartments.

Maybe I asked the wrong question when first asking.

Maybe asking what brands are highly reputable and well known for being great quality or just an overall great camera bag?

I caught your gist - and agree with the various names suggested above and below my post. All decent quality. If I could emphasize two things, they would be the importance of feeling the bag itself, with some weight in it, and the need to figure which overall style feels best and most accessible to you. I'm afraid these two pieces of advice require physically trying out a bag. As you're in a large metro area, that shouldn't be a problem, but I really feel for those who have to buy strictly from a catalog or website.

Good luck, a comfortable and usable carry really does make a huge difference in how you feel about going walkabout, both physically and mentally.

I'm cheap so the best bag is the one I have. Then again, I do tend to buy good stuff anyway, and being cheap doesn't mean buying poor quality. You've already seen the recommendations I would make. :)

I started out by purchasing a camera bag from Amazon. I didn’t know what to really look for when deciding what camera bag to get so o got the bag that had a high rating with several other Amazon customers reviews.

As of right now, I have a Nikon 5600 with several lenses both prime and kit. My camera came with two kit lenses as I added 3 more over a two year period. I’ve added a Nikon Speed Flash and other miscellaneous items.

I’ve outgrown my current Altura Photo Camera bag. To be honest the Altura bag felt on the cheap side of quality. I always had a slight bit of doubt my equipment wasn’t as secure as it could have been due to the bag.

What camera bags do you recommend that’s the best bag for the buck?

Thanks for your help!

Allen

Among the best value and quality bags are mint Tamrac and Tenba used bags from Ebay. Some of the best values around, why buy new when you can these quality bags for a song.

Lowepro sling bag. You can carry as much or little as you want. Carry a monopod. I like the sling because if I see something I want to shoot I can sling it and get to my gear easily. It not cumbersome to carry ar all. It is also water resistant

Trying to get my head around your comment that Lowepro bags make thieves assume you have the best in them. What? Lowepro is at the lower end of bags. You can buy them at Walmart for $8 to $75 dollars. Not knocking anyone using them, as I even have one, but they don't have a quality reputation.

I actually purchased the LowPro back pack from best buy. It has been a great investment but it is true. When people see the LowPro name they assime you have the best in it so it makes it a target. Thieves will be thieves and its best to just keep it close at all times. Best Buy sold the bag for 128.00 but I had them match amazons price of 84.00. It fits all mky gear and has even taken several tumbles down an embankment.

The only camera bag I returned didn't have enough interior Velcro to put dividers where I wanted them. I don't recall the brand, but when I spoke to someone at the company, he said that the cost of Velcro was the reason - and they lost a sale. I like Lowepro.

I bought a TuBu camera backpack recently from Amazon for about $80 and it is excellent. Plenty of room and well made.

I really like the English-made Billingham bags. Although pricey, they are stylish and have proven to be durable and fit-for-purpose. Quality is never cheap.

Most of my bags of various styles are Lowepro. I like their quality, some with weatherproof covers, and attention to small details. I also have 1 Tamrac and 1 Domke bag each as well.

get a bag that fits some of your gear; not all. the bigger the bag the more it weights. I have too many bags, but I'm a bag nut. I would not buy another bag that doesn't have wheels. At this stage of life I try to carry one body and one lens.
