I say 'yes it does'. I then point out the button that dispenses frozen margaritas and the button that does cheeseburgers.

What's that Jascha Heifetz anecdote ... the woman tells Mr. Heifetz
after a performance how beautiful his violin sounded ... Mr. Heifetz
then puts his ear to the violin and says, "I don't hear anything".
Surely you can invent your own ... photographic ... version of that !

Because she thought my camera took such good pictures, someone once asked me what brand it was. She wanted to get the same one for her husband. I often wondered if it took good pictures for him.
As my Dad was fond of saying, "A fool and his(her) money are soon departed."
I can't help but wonder how many cameras she has bought for him?

I'm sure we've all heard this a few times at least...and I'm wondering about the verious ways we respond to those well-meaning comments. Often our 'inner voice' is saying, "Hey, I took that photo, I selected the lighting, composition, timing, exposure, etc...the camera was just the tool I used...!" Our better angels usually come to the rescue with some version of, "Thank you, very much", but I'd like to hear the reactions or responses from others.
Who hasn't heard the snappy come-back that goes something like..."Shakespeare wrote some great plays, he must have had a very good typewriter..!"
I'm sure we've all heard this a few times at least... (

The metaphor is apt for any profession: Your oven made a great cake, your hammer builds a great house, etc.
When it happens to me, I just say "thanks" or "yes and I hope some day to use it properly" and let it go.
I usually say yeah I took this one with my phone.....
My cameras do take great pictures. That’s why I chose them. Otherwise, wouldn’t we all still be using the first camera we ever had? I do feel some gratitude to my camera but realizing I did have something to do with making the photos. In other words, I just say ‘thank you, I like it.’

Occasionally when someone borrows my instrument
I tell them to be sure to teach it some good stuff cuz
I've taught it too much crappola already.
Acoast thaz me complimenting another player whose
skill and talent I admire. But it does suggest a reply
to the question at hand:
About your camera that "takes really good pictures",
you can respond that "Its pictures were terrible until
I lent it to a talented photographer, and he taught it
how to make terrific pictures."

I just say thank you. I have on few occasions said to a friend that this like saying a person is a great cook because they have a good stove.
Thank you is a much better response than, “I hear you are a great chef. You must have a really good stove.”
Never mind. Looks like I'm trying to link to a gif that has been removed.
I have been replied to like that many times. I read once a good response, it might even have been here on UHH, but; I usually ask if the person is a good cook or if male "is your wife a good cook?" Of course the reply is usually "yes". So I ask; " Then you must have a really good Stove?" At that point the replier usually gets the point.
