Which software converting program is best for Infrared especially where it needs a channel swapper or mixing channel. Any cheap or free ones out there with this tool? I use aperture but this doesn't seem to be able to do channel swapping.
My IR converted camera is only b&w, so I can't help you with the color channel swapping part. But the Nik Silver Efex pro works well with b&w. I downloaded the 15 day free trial, but to purchase cost $200.
I had mine converted to color 590nm. I found pixelmator which has a mixing channel and downloaded the free trial. Its quite good and only $29 but I think If Im going to have post process properly Im going to have to bite the bullet and get photoshop which I downloaded the trial which has run out now and tried to do it again but to no avail.

I use photoshop CS6 but any version will work. If you have it...send me a PM and I will email you an action I wrote that will switch the channels for you.
I understand besides photoshop, photoshop elements plus has a channel mixer. Also you can swap channel with NX2 (for Nikon).I have a Nikon D70s IR converted camera. Kolari Vision has a variety of actions for photoshop.
I found a software that has a mixing channel called pixelmator but the problem is once Ive imported it from aperture to do the channel change and sent it back to aperture as a tiff the size is around 3mb but the mpixel is 1.5. The original sent to pixelmator was 5.6mb and 6mega pixel. With Photoshop cs6 can you import directly from the camera into photoshop? cheers

You bring up an interesting point bringing NX2 into the mix. After stumbling through issues trying to get good IR images, I had to abandon using LR or PS to correct the white balance. It is best to use NX2 for Nikon users, and Canon's equivalent software initially, then save as a TIFF or JPEG, load into Photoshop and switch the channels.
Unfortunately no other software can manage all of the information contained in a Nikon or Canon RAW file.
Here is my workflow,
I use green grass as a target to set the cameras custom white balance.
Take the picture
From the camera I load the RAW files into NX2. I use the Marquis tool to correct the White Balance. That is the only adjustment I make in NX2.
I export the files as TIFF and then I open in CS6 and switch the channels.
Perfecto.
I also had a Nikon d70s converted to 590nm color. The beauty of this conversion you can mimic the other realms of infrared as well like 720nm. And convert to nice contrasty B+W.
With Nikons NX2 can you do all things needed for a good infra red post process? Cause at the moment Im ending up with a 3mb tiff at 1.5 mega pixel file going from aperture to pixelmator back to aperture. It would be good to have a upload to one software to diminish the loss of pixels etc? cheers
Does NX2 have a channel mixer? cheers

But does it have a mixing channel? cheers
Ok I see it is a mixing channel thanks
What size file do you end up with after all that exporting?
Are you sure NX2 has a mixing channel cause Nikonshooter said it doesnt?
