Thats why I own six. Don't forget the spare back up tripod that stays in the back of the car.

I just use the RRS quick release plates and can change from gimbal to ball in about 10 seconds...probably as fast as the OP can ID and grab the correct tripod from the herd. Plus it is easier to travel with one tripod only...

Best,
Todd Ferguson

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a brand of tripod that easily and quickly changes heads? My RRS has three screws that allow for quickly changing between a ball head and a gimbal. Likely other brands have this feature as well.

See, this is where the prenuptial agreement is so important.

I don't think my spouse understands that I need one tripod for with a gimbal for my big lens, one tripod for my macro rail, and one with my skytracker all by the door. I also don't think they will understand that I still need another tripod with a simple ball mount just for all other needs. What should I do?

Most can have interchangeable heads. That’s not the goal. The goal is to have something ready to go right now. If they have the funds and it’s her passion, why not have multiple rigs setups?

I agree!

Tell her tripods are like shoes for a camera. You wouldn't expect her to manage with only one pair of shoes, would you?

If you already had three spouses, would you “need” a fourth?

Well, if money is not an issue, but rather their placement near the door, perhaps a compromise is in order. Are you a professional who's constantly on the run for paid shoots? If not do you really need to keep them near the door? You can't find anywhere else? I would guess if it's a jointly-owned home your wife has a right to not want a cluttered looking aesthetic. If the issue is also money, then perhaps you need to rethink your priorities. I doubt many of us have the desire or need for four separate tripods. I suspect virtually every situation could be covered by two well thought out tripod choices. Heads can always easily be swapped.

I have and use four tripods. Always room for one more.
