I was wondering the same thing. I googled this recently but could not find a specific release date. Apparently, production was hung up because one of the ingredients was unobtainable and they had to obtain a substitute. The original release date was supposed to have been December 2017. I did read that they will release the Super 8 movie film before the 35mm slide film. It would be great to have another option for E-6 slide film. I would appreciate information from anyone "in the know."

There still are many options for film, even E-6 slide film. Fuji still makes Velvia 50 and 100 and Provia 100. There are countless options for color and black and white print film, too many to list here.

I read your post again. Maybe there was some irony or "tongue in cheek" there.

Yup! Well..
I started out shooting slides and mostly Kodachrome as I hated the color of Ektachrome that were available in the late 70's. But starting in the 80's I do my own color darkroom work so I switched to color negative films. I shot slides off and on but mostly Kodachrome. In 2010 when Kodachrome was discontinued I got a roll of Ektachrome 100 and I actually liked it better than the Kodachrome. But then Kodak quit making chrome film. I was OK with color negative until I bought my DSLR in 2013 and my wife had a good reason to make me get rid of my darkroom.
So I am thinking now that I don't have the darkroom I can no longer make the prints my way so perhaps I should shoot slides again. And among my collection of 35mm SLR there is the Canonflex (the first Canon entry into the SLR market). It's in great condition, and I thought to myself how great it would be to shoot Ektachrome in this meterless camera and so I've been waiting.
I put the Canonflex up for sale now and it's going to be gone.

I am also an old Kodachrome shooter but by 2004 or so, processing became too difficult. The writing was on the wall that Kodachrome's days were numbered. Paul Simon's prophecy was becoming true. I also did not care for the earlier Ektachromes. However, in the early to mid 1990s, Kodak replaced Ektachrome with Lumiere, which I thought was quite good. For some unknown reason, Kodak went back to Ektachrome. The newer Ektachromes were much better than their proedecessors. They also had a consumer verson called Elite Chrome, which I would also shoot once in a while. Starting in the early 2000s, I shot mostly Fuji E-6 but would shoot Ektachrome or Elite Chrome occasionally. I shoot Fuji E-6 film now along with color and B and W print film and some digital. I am fine with shooting Fuji but it would be great to have an alternative, since I fear E-6 reversal films may be an endangered species. If the new Ektachrome is as good as Ektachrome was when it was discontinued, I think it would be a strong alternative to Fuji.

I got the Canonflex in the 90's. I had Nikon F2 and F3 since 1977 but in the mid 80's I went broke so I sold all my Nikon. I got this Canonflex from an old guy who fell sorry for me and sold it to me for $40 with the 50mm f/1.8 lens. I shot a lot of color negative film with it and since the camera doesn't have a meter I did it all truly manual. It worked well for me and I actually rarely had bad exposure. I don't use it any more since I bought my then brand new Nikon F5 in 2002. In fact the damn F5 gave me more underexposed film than the meterless Canonflex. I later bought a used F3 and was more happy with it than the F5.
I listed the Canonflex here.

EK+ Pro was my favorite slide film, wish they'd bring that one back.

(Sigh.)

Don’t hold your breath. They may not get around the hurdle of missing ingredients in a profitable manner.

What’s wrong with Fujichrome?

FijiChrome and Ectachrome us EXACTLY the SAME CHEMICALS, E-6 is E-6, no matter who produces it, eh ?

It isn’t a case of film processing. They need an ingredient they can’t get to make a part of the emulsion.
