I have narrowed my choices for a new ball head to use on my Gitzo full size tripod to the Induro BH3 or the RRS BH-55. I am more concerned with having the best ball head than which one is more expensive.

I only have experience with the BH-55. It's a fantastic ball head that I've been using for several years and never had an issue. Easy to adjust and works perfectly in all kinds of weather and conditions. You can't go wrong with any of the RRS products.

Both are nice heads, but the BH-55 still tops the BH3 in a many comparisons!

Go with the RRS BH-55 and a lever release clamp.

Love it, but I'd love to compare it to the BH-40 to reduce some weight/size.

Induro may be ok. I have no experience with it. But I do have experience with RRS BH-55, Arca Swiss Z1, Markins Q20 - and can say that they are functionally similar. I would avoid the lever type lock - they only work if you use one mfgr's plates and L brackets - there are minute differences between them and most of the time the lever-style locks are not easily adjustable.

I found that with a 70-200 lens, the BH-40 head would not support the weight of the Tamron on one end, and a Nikon D850 on the other, and started to creep.

I'd spring for the RRS BH series. If you are interested in a one pound weight reduction look at the comparable Markins Q20.

Thanks! I like the way the BH-55 holds the big stuff without having to crank the heck out of the set knob. I was just whining about the size and weight when I travel!

I purchased the Induro BH3 a few months ago, am surprised at the quality for that price and absolutely love it. It may or may not be equal to the RRS but you would certainly not be disappointed.

I would HIGHLY recommend the RRS product. Best money can buy, IMHO. I have the BH-40 and have plans to upgrade to the BH-55 at some point. Kind of regret not getting the bigger one first, but the BH-40 fits my plan of reducing weight, and the biggest lens I would normally use on it would be the 70-200/2.8. Best of luck.
