Using the "L"

Was able to try out my 70-200 last night at the Longwood Fireworks show.... was positioned about 1/2 a mile from the fireworks launch site.

While the "L" does a good job, even 70 mm was a tad too long of a reach I think.

Most shots were done focused at infinity, 4.0 seconds, ISO 100, and f/22

Next time I want to go back to my Sigma 17-50 though. Hmmm... how about an 8mm fisheye?

Thanks, appreciate you looking and commenting

The shots have gotten better over the years, trial and error does work!

Thanks. The Gardens schedules several shows every summer, and it is pretty easy to set up outside the gardens and practice getting shots with new settings.

Good thing digital is filmless

Not bad, Don. Was the f/22 to give you a long-ish SS?

I used f/22 based on settings I had seen on others posting, normally the majority of fireworks shots I have done are at f/8 - f/11. Even shooting at f/11 and a 4.0 second shutter speed at ISO 100 would often result in blown out images due to the brightness of the shell exploding.

Looking at the results from f/22 & 4.0 it seems much much better.

I could probably drop the aperture, and go with a shorter SS of course, but then it requires much better timing ;)

Good thing the Gardens schedules 4-5 shows a summer!

Yes, I think 70mm was a little too much also at that distance. I did some Christmas fireworks last year at 70mm with my crop sensor body and 100mm with my full frame body and they were perfect but I was probably 3-4 miles away from them. You don't want to be too close. I suggest you try ISO100, f/11, @ 4s shutter. If you plan to be the same distance away then try a 24-70mm at about 24mm.

Yes, agree, have used f/11 & f/8 and various SS settings. Also, normally use a 17-50 or my 16-300 at the wide end. Wide is much better for sure!

All of these were done at f/11, ISO 100, 4S
