Just wondering - Been a Nikon user for years, but have thought about sticking my toe in the Canon world. Have an interest in the 5D Mark lll, and have been keeping an eye on availability (only used available). Have noted that there seems to be very few on the market as compared to other makes/models (lots of Mark lls listed).
From things I have read, the camera is referred to as a solid workhorse that has been used by professionals for years. Just wondering if there seems to be so few out there just because they are so loved that no one wants to give them up, or not many were purchased in the first place OR what? Any insight?

Villages, I purchased the Mark III apx. 3 years ago and couldn't be happier that I did. It is indeed a workhorse and, believe me, if anyone could be living testament to that, it's me. I shoot hundreds at a time and it's never failed me yet. I find the photos to be far superior to any camera I have ever owned. I will warn you, however, that it is extremely heavy, and I have had to put it away for periods due to back problems, but I love it so much that as soon as I felt better I couldn't wait to get back to it. I'm sending you a PM on purchasing possibilities.

You live in The Villages? Tell my sister I said "Hello". The Mark III Canon 5 series is a wonderful camera. The Mark II was the first to introduce video recording and the next in the series was even a better combination of features offered. The were many of this camera sold and most were to professional photographers. It was the rage at the time of introduction. The Canon Museum might tell how many were sold initially. The few number of available units now indicates it is still highly thought of. Most users do not pass them on but keep them instead. If you are willing to invest the time they still appear in the refurbished catalogue occasionally.
Canon USA has it on sale periodically, like right now. Unfortunately, it is temporarily out of stock... which is a testament to how popular it still is. I have one and thought about picking up a second body, but opted for the 5DII as a full frame backup because I found one for a super low price and great condition. I am so happy with the III, I have no desire or need to upgrade to the IV.

I've got a friend that swears by hers. She probably has close to 300,000 clicks on it. Still going strong.
This is the body of her work with that camera:

shutterbug, thanks for thee feedback
David thanks. Yes, living in The Villages. Must be the fastest growing area in the State.
Gene, some great pics. I can only hope to be nearly as good.

Solid workhorse, built like a tank, and excellent at high ISOs to the extent that I rarely worry about ISO any more - I just leave it on manual and auto ISO. I routinely shoot indoor sports at ISOs 8,000 - 12,800. If you can pick one up for somewhere in the $1500 (or less) range with light use, I think you’ll be happy.

I know I don't want to give up mine!
I'm quite happy with mine.
The 5D3 is a great camera. I also own one, but my new 5D4 landed on my doorstep, yesterday. Now, I have a 5D4, 5D3 and a 7D2. I am putting up the latter of the two up for sale, if anyone is interested. No idea what the shutter count(s) on either body, as I have not found any software or an app that will tell the counts on those two bodies.
I have an incurable cancer and I've wanted the 5D4 since it came out and figure this (5D4) is my last camera.
If anyone is interested, I will make a great deal on the 5D3 and 7D2. Only bad news (good for me) is we fly out to Hawaii, tomorrow morning, for 2 1/2 weeks.
Feel free to make me an offer, if interested. Oh, I have a Canon EF135 f2.0 L lens that I am going to get rid of, too. I just never use it and want it gone as well. Lens is an incredible lens for bokeh and is razor sharp, too.

Shooting was just a hobby for me for many years. I went from Canon Xsi to 7D to 7DII. I made the move to 5DIII and immediately transitioned to professional. Starting selling prints, shooting paid events with no problems. I never looked back. Have no interest in the IV. The price of the 5DIII was reduced when the IV hit the market. That's when I got it at tremendously deal. Do yourself a favor,,,,,,,,,,,,, buy a new one and you be the only one to break it in,,,,,,,,,not someone else.
