New Sony RX-100 question

My new rx-100 is due to arrive at my door tomorrow. Just thinking, is it a bridge camera? I am not sure where to put it, bridge, point shoot? It has a large sensor, 1 inch, a top of the line CZ lens. Anyone have an opinion?

More bridge than P & S, but I think the proper catejory would be a "compact", since it is pocketable. Maybe call it an "advanced compact with fixed super zoom lens", since it is all of those or maybe just a "compact bridge". Sounds like it is going to be a lot of a camera regardless and getting a lot of positive reviews. Let us know how you like it.

I got the camera today and been playing with it off and on for 4-5 hours. Had company so mostly off. I am mixed so far, this is SO different from an slr and a bridge, I am learning the settings and the capabilities. The image below was taken with 'anti shake' setting, for low light. The camera took either 6 or 7 exposures and stitched them together. This happens very fast, 6 frames in 1/3 sec, so can hand hold if your steady. In the shot below, camera took over all the settings in the mode. auto ISO 6400 1/80 f/4.

It is very small and heavier than you would think for a camera that size. The build is very good, all metal and feels very substantial. Lens is good, sharp, and 1.8 wide open. Focus system takes some getting used to, a bit different. Has lots of focus options to explore, so far I've only used spot and tried manual, it seems to work pretty good. In manual, the camera zooms in very close to allow you to get a perfect focus, as soon as you stop focusing, the screen goes back to full size image.

As I learn more I will post more comments, so far, I think it's a keeper. Did I mention , it's really small.

No PP. ISO 6400 1/80 f/4. 6 exposures "HDR?" Kitchen with only overhead light on.

The manual for the RX-100 is not even good enough for an expert. They explain the functions, but don't tell you how to access them, frustrating. Very basic explanations, it is worthless. Like, manual focus, all it basically says is it is capable of doing that. Google your questions.

Getting used to the camera a lot more now. It really has some great features. The images are as good as my A57 as long as i get the focus right. Focus works good in P, S, A, M. The focus tracking system is great for a moving object. Auto focus is a 15 point system and it focuses on the closest object, so not great at times, it will focus on the wrong object. The manual focus works fabulous. As soon as the focus ring is turned, it zooms in to about 10x and make focus easy and spot on. Sony had some great minds working on the camera, it is for the most part laid out very well, easy to use and has all the features a pro would want.

Pic I took at the fair with the rx-100. 6 frame in camera HDR. hand held standing on the top of the bleachers.
