High res shot mode

olympus Mark 5 has 16 megapixels but also has 40 mp high res mode.....Can someone explain this to me please?

After you read the writeups in the links provided by Longshadow, you should read this:

Basically, minute sensor shifting, or what usually happens randomly when you hand hold a camera - is the core of this processing technique.

And you can do this with any camera, but you can't use it on moving subjects for obvious reasons.
