A few seagulls were fighting over a perch atop a light pole in a local grocery store parking lot.( no where near the ocean) . I snapped a few shots from my car window. After cropping out the trees and power lines I added this shot to a stock photo of an ocean scene. The feathers are tough to select but overall I think it looks Ok. Not really a "keeper" of a shot, but it was a good exercise in compositing .

A believable composite. Nice Job
Nice job - the day will come when I will be able to do more then push the shutter.
Thanks to all.... I think learning the ins and outs of making better selections using my new Wacom tablet will make for better overall merged photos. It's so much more than just "cut and paste" to make it look realistic. ( but fun...)
What selection tool in what editing program did you use? This is a great composite, excellent from an amateurs perspective. Thanks for posting
I use Elements 9 and had to use a few different selection methods to get the feathers edges ( which still are not perfect). The trick was actually feathering( no pun ) the edges of the final selection and then using the blur tool after merging the layers, to keep that sharp line from making it look like a "copy and paste". Not a spectacular shot, but for me it was an exercise that I visualized one day watching the gulls fight for that perch, so I wanted to see if I could recreate what I pictured. It was fun to do, so that means more than the final result, to me.
original shot cropped
Thanks for your reply. I have elements 9 and CS5 and have used selection tools from both with fair to middlin' results. Your composite is really great. Thanks again.
