Anyone have or used Above Elements for photo editing? Wife has it from a class she took last year. I've never played with it as I am converting to digital from film. Is it worth learning for editing purposes?

I've been using one version or another for four years. It is less complicated than Photoshop, but has the ability to work in layers, which is a "big deal" for being able to control edits. It also has a module for editing raw files (again, a lighter version than comes with PS).

What I liked best initially is it has 3 tabs for layout: quick, guided, expert (or another name, I'm having a brain cramp, lol). The tools are easy to access and neatly arranged. Lots of books, videos and online help available too.

This is a good initial post-processing program. Photo Shop Elements uses techniques that carry over into Photo Shop and LightRoom.

If you have it, learn to use it. It would be a waste not to use it.
I have two editors (three including the RAW editor) that I use depending on my requirements, Elements 14 is one of them.

Lew, you created a second topic nine minutes after the first. Since #2 has received more comments, I'll copy mine here also

I’m quite pleased with it for most uses.

It doesn't matter which one you pick. They all work very well. None is better than the other. What matters is that you pick one and stick with it until you produce images you like.

Having said that, I enjoyed Photoshop Elements a lot. But now my favorite is Lightroom with the Photoshop backup you get in the $10 per month plan.

Elements is very capable and easy to learn, BUT, the majority of its tools are 8 bit, while Photoshop is 16 bit, and Lightroom is a much more advanced asset manager.

"8 bit, while Photoshop is 16 bit"

Deleted for being argumentative.

Sorry, are you responding to my post? If so, not argumentative, just factual. If you’re not (responding to me), then please ignore.

Actually I was responding to your post. For most, the 8 to 16 bit difference is inconsequential for actual work. I started to take exception, but it was more work than I'm willing to do now. You can't back up and delete a post here, so I wrote in "deleted".

In short, lots of great work comes out of Elements regardless of bits.
