I hope the link works - Sony just announced their new 400mm G lens. I just bought an a6000 and this is JUST the lens I was looking for!!! I just briefly glanced at the price...who cares about price, though! Nikon users - eat your heart out!

As a Nikon user lets have a contest. I will put my Nikon Nikkor 200-500 at 400mm and you put your $12,000 lens and we shoot the same subject. I bet I win and have $10,000 in my pocket as a savings. You might eat your heart out!

But try setting them both at F/2.8 in low light, or just for a nice smooth background. I own and love the Nikon 200-500, but sometimes I just have to choose the 500 F/4.0. There is a place for everything, and everything in its place.
Besides, $10,000 in your pocket just causes a bulge, but doesn't do anything else.

I agree. Unless I've misread the specs....this Sony lens has a close-distance focus at about 7 meters.....while our Nikkor 200-500 focuses down to approx. 2 meters. I know that a telephoto is not designed for close-up....but one can get some really great images at 500mm focused focused down to about 6 feet (rather than 21 feet for the Sony.)

Thats $1000 more than Nikons fabulous 400mm F2.8, and $2000 more than Canons current model. And you are still stuck with Sonys tiny batteries. Why would anyone "eat their heart out" over this?????
